Organizing Ideas For The Weekend: School Lunch Containers

Happy Friday!  Time for another organizing idea for your weekend!

Is making school lunches one of your least favourite chores?  Maybe you started out all gung ho in September, but as the year progresses it's becoming more tedious to get those lunches packed every day.

For many people, it's hard to come up with creative and nutritional food ideas that your kids will actually eat.  Well, I'm not a food blog, so I'm not going to share ideas for what to pack in your kids' lunches.

But, one way you can simplify the process of packing lunches is to have all your lunch containers organized.  It will save you time and ease your frustration so you can focus on the actual meal you're sending with your kids!

Recently I showed you how I store my kids' lunch containers.

These clear shoe boxes in one of my deep drawers are working really well for our lunch containers.  My kids have "litterless lunches" at their school so they need a lot of containers.

I bought square snap-lock sandwich containers (similar to these) so it was easy for the kids to open and close them on their own.  I also bought a few sandwich shaped containers because they stack so nicely together and they are also easy to open.  And I bought snack dishes at the dollar store.  Again I made sure I had stacking dishes so they take up as little space as possible.

This system has been working well for us for the last few months.  But depending on your space and the types of containers you use, you may be looking for other organizing ideas.

So today I'm going to share some of my favourites.  Choose the method that will work best for you!

  • You can designate a shelf in a kitchen cabinet for lunch containers like this one.

  • If your containers don't stack neatly or you don't want them falling over like dominoes, you can use a basket to store them in.

Uncommon Designs

  • If you don't have a cabinet available, you can store lunch containers in a set of plastic drawers somewhere in your kitchen.

  • Here are a couple more drawer ideas for storing lunch containers.
