Have you ever felt overwhelmed during the month of December with all the stuff that enters your home? The trick I've found helps me is to declutter throughout the month. Will you join me in the Net Zero Decluttering Challenge?
Each day this month I'll share some decluttering tips and ideas so you can end the month with the same number of items in your home (or maybe even less!) than what you started the month with.
Today I'm sharing tips on decluttering more clothing now that you know what you've received for Christmas.
Today's Suggested Decluttering Task
Yesterday we applied the one-in-one-out rule to toys and today we're applying it to clothing!
If you already decluttered your clothing and decluttered your kids' clothing earlier this month, you may not have much left that you want to purge. But it's worth taking a quick peek as you're putting away the new clothes you received for Christmas.
If you haven't decluttered clothing recently, take some time to do that now so your closets and dresser drawers aren't crammed when you add your new clothing to them.
Here are a few tips:
- If you received a new sweater, declutter 1 (or more!) that are stretched, worn, or ball-y
- If you received a new blouse, declutter 1 (or more!) that is no longer flattering
- If you received new pants, declutter 1 (or more!) pants that are too small
- If you received new socks or underwear (doesn't everyone receive those for the holidays?!), declutter any that are hole-y, worn, or dirty looking
- If you received new pajamas, declutter 1 (or more!) sets that you don't like as much as the new ones
Get the idea? It's pretty simple. One item in... one item out. If you've got cluttered closets or drawers, declutter more than one! Make room for the new by letting go of the old.
Decluttering More of My Clothing
My Progress in the #NetZeroClutter challenge
But 3 items out... our 3 chocolate advent calendars... all the chocolates have been eaten and the rest has been recycled. And as I start putting gifts away tomorrow I'll be on the lookout for items to declutter :)
So that puts me at -3 items today in the #NetZeroClutter challenge and -291 overall. It's nice to be back to a 0 in day for a change :)
